Our bookstore buddy Maria Lucia Klöcker, has fulfilled her lifelong dream on her 60th birthday and opened the wonderful bookstore "Buchhandlung Weltenleser" in Frankfurt.
Dear Ms Klöcker, why did you choose to run a bookshop?
Because I wanted very much to make a great dream of mine come true in time for my sixtieth birthday: that I should open a bookshop.
Please describe the final few meters of the route you take in the mornings to your bookshop.
During the last few metres and the last few minutes before entering the shop, I look forward very much to seeing the newly arrived books and, hopefully, making literary discoveries.Every time, I feel as if it were Christmas.
Throughout the day ...When the shop-door opens and someone steps inside...
My working day entails meeting interesting people, having stimulating conversations and enjoying warm encounters. Given all that, it goes without saying that I’m full of expectation every time the door opens and someone steps inside the shop.
What is the wonderful thing that happens when we read?
Reading takes us on journeys all around the world. The book is the best vehicle I’ve ever found for stimulating your imagination.
Many say they don’t have the time to read. What can they do about that?
Just do it. Everywhere and at any time.
Has a Norwegian book given you a reading experience that you remember with pleasure?
Yes. Reading the novel Brink by Jan Kjaerstad (Norw. Rand has not been published in English but the author’s trilogy about Johan Wergeland had been published in the USA by Open Letter. Rand was published by Aschehoug, Oslo. 1990) was among the most impressive reading experiences in my life.
From the German by Anna Paterson.
