"Brand", a drama by Henrik Ibsen, directed by Roger Vontobel, will be shown at Schauspiel Frankfurt.
Ibsen’s hero is a religious man, who denounces both the egoism of the people and the double standards of the church and longs to lead humans to „the right life“. But his faith turns out to be fanaticism. The dramatic poem explores how humankind destroys itself through an unrestrained will, which demands „all or nothing“. HINRICH SCHMIDT-HENKEL, one of the most renowned translators, has transferred the original into a modern prose version.
